Buying safely

Before you travel

• Ask for extra photos of serial numbers, wear points and any damage.
• Ask how old the item is, how often it was used and why it is being sold.
• Check the seller's profile: reviews, completed sales and how long they have been a member.
• Agree a price, a meeting place and a time in the message thread so there is a record.

Inspecting the item

• Test moving parts, zips, seals, drivetrains, electronics and batteries.
• For helmets and protective gear, ask about crashes, age and expiry dates.
• For anything with a frame or shaft, look for cracks, repairs and paint that hides damage.
• Compare what you see with the listing photos and description.

Paying

• Pay only when you have the item in your hands.
• Never pay a deposit to hold an item you have not seen.
• Keep a record of the payment and the conversation.

If something goes wrong

Report the listing or the member using the Report button and include as much detail as you can. Because HobbyTrade UK does not process payments, we cannot refund you — but we can remove listings, suspend accounts and share information with the police where appropriate.
