Used Motocross Bike Buying Checklist

Hours, compression, frame and paperwork — how to avoid buying a bad MX bike.
Ask about hours and maintenance
Ask for engine hours, the last piston or top-end rebuild, and service receipts. A well-maintained high-hour bike beats a neglected low-hour one.
Inspect in person
Start it cold. Look for smoke, listen for knocks, check fork seals for oil, and inspect the frame around the swingarm pivot for cracks or welds.
Check it isn't stolen
Match the frame number to any paperwork and ask for proof of purchase. Walk away if the seller can't explain where the bike came from.
